It’s hard to think of many things that predate ancient history. However, one such thing is the practice of metal fabricating. Metalworking and metal fabrication have been a necessity for us humans since sharpened sticks and rocks just couldn’t cut it anymore. It is thought that some of the first practitioners of metal fabrication where the ancient Egyptians who used metal working for the creation of gold jewelry. While gold is found in nature and requires little work to form and mold, eventually it was discovered that ore and heat could be used to accomplish more. With that knowledge, even today archaeologists find remnants of ancient mines all over the world.

Since its very humble beginnings, metalworking and metal fabrication began to grow in complexity and scope. Civilizations continued to innovate and discover new methods and materials to create the metal products and metal fabrications that they needed. All of that innovation has lead to the present day, where metal fabricating continues to be innovated, and the scale and complexity are centuries ahead of where they began.

Metal recycling is the process of reusing old metal scrap material, mainly aluminum and steel, to make new products. Metal scrap can be recycled indefinitely without losing any useful properties like strength, malleability, or conductivity. Metal recycling lowers production costs for metal manufacturers and helps deliver quality metal products throughout the world. Scrap metal recycling is one of the key elements to a cleaner environment. Millions of tons of scrap metal are processed across the globe each year. It is said that around 10 million tons of it comes from old construction vehicles. In addition to used heavy equipment and metals used in the construction industry, many other common household items are also recycled including bed springs, metal appliances, old tools, and toys with metal parts.

The “Green Movement” or environmental protection movement is a very hot-button topic right now, with growing pressure from the political, business, and social sectors. Conservation is something that most of us can agree is important for one reason or another; of course business growth and development cannot simply halt. In response to this desire to protect our environment, the process of recycling resources has become an attractive option, particularly in the scrap metal trade which has been greatly buoyed as a result. Recycling scrap aluminum for example produces only 5% of the CO2 produced by processing the metal from scratch, and only 5% of the energy of primary production. Since manufacturing new metals creates toxic fumes and a great deal of waste, we can fill the need for metal materials by using recycled scrap metal.

The materials, equipment, and processes used in the metal stamping industry have proven to be less costly than the original methods of forming metals and alloys into definite shapes. Metal stamping is the method of bending, clipping, and molding sheet metal or coil metal by stamping and pressing the material into the desired forms. The shaped metal is plated with nickel, tin, or some other metallic elements to protect it from corrosion. The most commonly used metals are stainless steel, aluminum, zinc, and nickel. They are low cost, strong, durable, hard to break, portable, and non-toxic.

The precision machining industry in North America has been on the decline due to two factors: the chronic inflation in the price of raw materials and the transportation of same, and a high level of outsourcing to China and India. Outsourcing hasn’t struck the metal stamping industry as profoundly thanks to the proximity of the Great Lakes, around which it is concentrated.

Forged metal products are those shaped by localized compressive force. Forging may be carried out at room temperature (cold forging) or at high temperature (warm forging). Stamped metal products are those shaped under a press. The old-style drop forges using the fire-and-brimstone method of forging is harmful to the environment, costly, and hard on the employees. Forming metal this way requires making the steel semi-molten so if the temperature is not estimated correctly (the workers would guess by experience decades ago) when the forge drops there are often rejects that have to be set aside, reheated, reworked, or scrapped altogether, slowing production.

Metal casting is what the name suggests. Basically metal casting is the process of melting down metal into a liquid state. The liquid metal is then poured into a cast; this cast allows the metal to cool creating the desired result of the intended mould or specific item they wish to make out of metal. The finished product is then sent off to be polished up and ready to be distributed. Metal casting is used for more “tailor-made” areas of manufacturing metal products which would generally cost a whole lot more if they had to be machined welded. A great aspect of Metal casting is that it also allows the ability to re-create the same product with great ease and they products are identical of one another.

The most important and integral part of metal casting is the mould. The mould is essentially what the product is going to be. These moulds are manufactured in a foundry. Manufacturers take their dimensions, sketches and ideas for the mould to the foundry where the moulds are produced. These moulds then get sent off to the casters. Casters put the completed mould into a back up frame that contains cooling apparatus. The melting down of the metal happens in a very particular place in the foundry. When the mould is done and is ready to be cast, casters move the liquefied metal over large machines and equipment above the mould, this equipment helps the liquefied metal flow down into the cast. This equipment also monitors the rate at which the liquid metal flows into the cast. The cooling equipment then cools the metal down allowing the metal to harden and become a solid state. The castings are now removed and the product is now ready to be cleaned.

Metal stamping commonly refers to the process of cutting and shaping metal alloys into particular forms and are widely used as components for large machinery or structures. It is regarded as the most economical and profitable way of producing several kind of metal products on a large scale. Generally, metal sheets are molded into varied shapes to be used as day-to-day products such as, pans and cans. Steel, zinc, nickel, aluminum and titanium are the most common alloys used for metal stamping.

The process of metal stamping is widely acclaimed in the industries that have a need for shaping metal at cost effective rates. With the help of advanced and innovative technology metal stamping industry is able to quicken the pace of production while keeping the cost of the end product low. Nowadays most of the manufacturers use metal stamping to reduce the cost of production. Metal stamping saves both time and money enabling the manufacturers to sell their products at affordable prices. Custom or precision metal stamping is used to create metal products exactly according to the size and shape needed by them. The method involves the pressing or stamping of the metal in dies or press tools and provide it the ideal shape. The end product obtained is exactly according to the needs and preferences of the customer. Custom or precision metal stamping is widely used in several industries such as construction, electrical, bearing, automotive, medical and janitorial.

Metal stamping products could range from the simplest to the most complex mechanical parts that are used in industries like automotive, house ware, aircraft, medical and communications. Such industries are constantly looking for manufacturers that will provide them the best metal products at affordable prices.

For a manufacturer, metalworking is by far the most effective and economical method to produce different types of metals. The process involves cutting and forming sheet metal into shapes and sizes based on a client’s design and specifications. They make use of special tools such as stamping dyes, as well as the most innovative technologies that not only speed up the rate of production but also produce high quality products at affordable cost.

Sheet metal stamping is used to produce a wide variety of items like automobile panels, rain gutters, restaurant equipment, road signs and heating ducts, fabricating. As a result, installing and maintaining these items can be a hazardous job. Sheet metal stamping workers are subject to frequent cuts, scrapes, burns and falls from scaffoldings or ladders. Many times, the sheet metal stamping production process itself requires repetitive heavy lifting, bending and squatting, putting workers at risk for back, neck and muscle injuries. Knowing the proper safety procedures can help keep sheet metal stamping production workers safe on the job.

Today, manufacturing has embraced a wide range of advanced technologies that have enabled the reduction of turnaround time considerably. As a result, demand on the metal stamping industry has also increased as the components have to be made to be exactly suitable to the final product. This has made precision and custom metal stamping much more important in the manufacturing industry.

Custom metal stamping is the process of creating metal products according to the required sizes and shapes through a method called stamping. It involves the pressing or stamping of the metal in dies or press tools to give it the right shape. In custom metal stamping, the final products are made according to customer’s precise requirements and conditions. Custom metal stamping is used in various industries like construction, electrical, bearing, automotive, medical and janitorial, among others.

Metal stamping typically involves the normal process of metal stamping but with certain changes. These can be the change in the kind of metal to be used, changes in the size and shape of the final product, the need to produce many kinds of sizes and shapes, high quality of the tools used, the volume and the number of units to be produced, the kinds of presses required and the number of presses and dies required. Some producers are changing their processes to accommodate any volume, up to thousands of tons.

Any of several chemical elements that are usually shiny solids that conduct heat and can be formed into sheets are known as metals. The Metal Industry is primarily concerned with metallurgy and metalworking. At first the metals are extracted from the metal-ores found in their natural state deep within the earth and then these ores are purified through a detailed procedure to obtain the metals in their pure form, these processes comprise metallurgy. Then the pure form of the metal so obtained is used to manufacture structures as well as different machines and parts of machines. The procedures which involve the manufacturing of machines and other useful items from the metals so obtained through the metallurgical processes constitute metalworking.

Alloy: Alloys are formed by the mixturing of two or more metals. Alloys consist of tiny crystals called grains. In every grain the atoms are packed together in a particular geometric arrangement. Grain size determines particular characteristics in alloys. Eg: smaller grains make stronger alloys. The first alloy made by people was bronze. The oldest bronzes consisted of copper and arsenic it was in about 3500 BC.The manufacturing of alloys is also carried out in the Metal Industry through the proportionate homogeneous mixing of two or more metallic elements (metals in the pure state). The alloys so formed are mainly manufactured in order to enhance the natural properties of the metals by combining them together. Here we are going to describe one of the most popular as well as useful alloy of Tin and Copper; Bronze. The oldest alloy known to human beings is bronze mixture of copper and arsenic.

It is essential to conserve natural raw materials so that we are not drained off our valuable resources and preserve the ecological balance of nature.

Metals form an integral part of our day to day lives. The various products we use on a regular basis include goods like household appliances, cutlery, aluminum beverage cans, steel cans, various types of pins and needles, some disposable medical products and so on. It is believed that the metals like aluminuim and steel have high scrap metal recycling value, so the more we recycle them the more is the energy and money saved. Recycling metals is so efficient such that it uses 95% less energy consumed in the manufacturing of the same. Other metals like copper, brass, bronze, zinc, magnesium, tin and lead are also conveniently recycled. The most significant advantage of recycling of metals is that no matter how many times you recycle them they retain their properties and are ready to be used all over again with the same efficiency, unlike some other articles like plastic. The most commonly used metals in domestic environments are aluminum and steel. Aluminium is an ore naturally occurring in nature as a mineral combined with oxygen. Manufacture of aluminum involves inducing huge amounts of electrical energy to separate the oxygen from the aluminuim. It is then melted and shaped into various products. Similarly, steel is created in an hot blast furnace involving a chemical reaction, during which iron ore, that is the raw material used in the process, is separated from its oxygen content.
